Last night I went to the Interim show of MA Photography at LCC. There was some great boundary pushing and creative uses of photography. One of my favourites were Natalie Dawkins four screen video instillation. Each screen simultaneously displayed a long take of a subject attempting to hold a smile. Watching this made my cheeks ache in sympathy, made me feel awkward and finally start laughing!
I also really liked Natalie Tkachuk's investigation of hybrid mechanical animals referencing the inspiration for post-apocolyptic Blade Runner. This work evoked thoughts of forgotten secrets but also the uncanny, with the implication of life within machinery.
